When you have nine teams playing across European cup competitions, it’s highly unlikely that enough points won’t be gotten to consolidate on the position. They’ve all managed to get some points. They’re fortunate. Whichever team gets that fifth slot would have lost at least 9 games and that’s a fifth of their total games, at the minimum. Liverpool may even get it and they’ve lost almost a third of their league games already. This particular slot will shamelessly reward failure in the league. It’s not different from Sweden qualifying for the World Cup despite not winning a group game. But. The game is the game.

My one criticism of our players is that they are static Trossard stands at the far end on the left, he never goes close to receive the ball, same with Madueke, he stands far on the right, not running towards a player with the ball to get the ball. They both stand there till the ball finds a way to them

Arteta has constructed the highest base physical & tactical squad in football with 3 unicorns in Saka, Saliba & Rice to add extra oomph to it. Setpieces act as an extra player to complement the attacking force. However, he accepted the signing of the worst starting CF in the league + Saka, his star attacker, has been struggling with some physical issues. This is why City could start the season with only Haaland & Doku in the squad as serious attacking options & end up close enough at the end because they signed Semenyo. It's all a game of who can field the strongest players from attack to defence.

By that flawed logic, Carrick should win Manager of the Year over Arteta even if Arteta wins the PL. One 9/10 month doesn’t outweigh consistent 7/10 performances all season. Consistency over the season matters way more.

Once again, if you don’t see at least two of Saliba, White or Calafiori in a starting lineup, don’t expect to see pretty football. You can’t play pretty football against a good side with pure athletes in your first line. Zubi, Eze & Dec will all have to drop deeper to receive.
