Many athletes, however, rush through this part of the motion, missing its full potential. ❌ Worse, an improper sweep often causes cascading issues throughout the throw. The Role of the Sweep in a Successful Throw: The sweep is where your throw gains both power and alignment. Think of it as the bowstring being pulled back—it sets the stage for the explosive release. 🚀 A narrow or rushed sweep disrupts balance, alignment, and even the timing of your throw. This often forces compensations like early upper-body engagement or a loss of torque. Here’s what happens with a poor sweep: 👉 Your hips tilt, throwing off your center of gravity. 👉 The discus doesn’t maintain a wide path, leading to inconsistent flight. 👉 The shoulders overcompensate, disrupting the rhythm of the throw.
