Muqarnas is a geometric system used in Iranian-Islamic architecture to articulate transitions between surfaces, commonly applied in domes, vaults, and entrances. The element is composed of tiered modules arranged in a three dimensional pattern, creating a honeycomb like structure. These layers break down solid surfaces into smaller facets, allowing light to interact with depth and produce shifting shadow across the surface. Often combined with tilework, muqarnas integrates structure, geometry, and ornament into a single system. Disappointment about not being labeled as Khalid aside, there's some really interesting design elements in this alt! He's got a little bandage (WHO HURT YOU MY CHILD??), and surprisingly, his braid is red! Is it an imitation of the Barbarossa red tassels usually on his wyvern?
