First winner of the year on *March 29*. Will need more to get close to parity but a nice step in the right direction after a run of brutal finishes. Fitzpatrick was the epitome of clutch from 11-17 and helped force mistakes from Chacarra. It was like watching big brother. Phew.

I comforted him a little, and then I headed to the French team's locker room to find my old friend Zidane. We shared an indescribable friendship. I went to console him and wish him better luck, especially after his departure in that manner. In the tunnel that leads to the French team's locker room, I found him alone, with the bitterness of defeat and the red card in his heart. He was surprised by my visit, and the first thing he said to me was: 'Wow, how did you leave all that noisy celebration and come here?' I told him: 'Joy won't make me forget my friend, the one I played with He hugged me warmly, took off his shirt, and gave it to me with a personal autograph, while telling me in Italian: 'Thank you, my friend. I'm happy for you. You're the best l've ever played with, and you really deserve this World Cup championship.'"

Superb collection of pens, then a good save by Kepa from Lacroix. Arsenal through, Palace out but gave everything and what a job Glasner does with limited resources. Ties much better going straight to pens after 90 mins, nobody needs extra time with calendar so crowded. #ARSCRY

@DavidFetteroll @BBCSport If we're looking at French footballers for a lifetime achievement award, Zinedine Zidane and Didier Deschamps would be more deserving. But I'm sure they'll have a nice montage and @BBCSport will make it sound just in their "annual sport round-up for non-sports fans"

Thierry Henry's lifetime achievement award at #spoty is laughable. He was a wonderful striker, there's no doubt about that. But he's not even 50, hasn't excelled since his playing days, would be a poor choice for a football "lifetime" achievement award let alone a sports one.
