Most people who want romantic relationships also want sexual compatibility as a standard part. When that expectation is absent long-term on one side, it creates mismatch for the majority outside asexual or very low-libido cases. Your example shows one side does not mind, which is different from both parties structuring the relationship around zero sex.

Non-asexual people can have periods without desire for sex, but a romantic relationship structured around zero sex long-term is basically non-existent and mainly fits those who are asexual or have very low libidos. A romantic relationship is the only place that is socially acceptable to get sex. It is a core part of a romantic relationship. That doesn't mean it's the only part of a relationship. When two people love each other and are romantically involved it's only natural both will want to have sex with each other.
