@ZeldaUniverse I don't care if its only as low as 30 or 40 dollars, i'm not buying a remake of a remake that looks this damn ugly. I'm more than happy with ocarina of time 3d thanks very much, that one was actually made with love for the OG and not clearly rushed out for profits sake only.

How much do you think Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2 is going to cost? $70? $80?

@VaporeonVapor All Zelda games are stylised, but OoT leans more toward realism than most. The remake, which still looks to be quite stylised, is in keeping with the OG imo.

I need to see more footage of the Ocarina of Time remake before i can have a firm stance on what i think of it's artstyle. But it's baffling seeing how many people say the original game was going for realism as a way to defend it from detractors. What realism?

@cryp_be @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx I think BotW still had that with other things, like the champion abilities or the feeling of personal growth that comes from learning new stuff about your abilities after experimenting with them. Necessary items aren't required for that sense of progression tbh.

@They_are_Arthur I think part of why some feel like this is simply longer game development cycles. And I don’t think the OoT remake is hitting the brick wall, rather busting through it. I’ve no doubt many fresh and exciting things are just over the horizon.

Legend of Zelda feels like it's hit a brick wall. It used to be that there was an original Zelda game around the corner on every Nintendo system. It feels like ever since Breath of the Wild the Zelda series has been sleeping on original ideas.

@Paragraph212 @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx Timing makes no difference to the necessity, but when you get the only necessary items right at the start of the game you’re robbed of the sense of reward and progression you get when they’re dotted throughout the game. It’s something I really missed in BotW.

@cryp_be @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx I don’t think the point where you get an item has anything to do with whether or not they’re necessary. You can’t continue the game without the items. This makes them objectively necessary.

@Paragraph212 @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx Classic Zelda items typically have versatile uses across the whole game, just some more than others. Necessity is valuable because of the anticipation of finding an important item, the sense of reward upon finding it. BotW just doesn’t really have that, and it’s something I like.

@cryp_be @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx I don’t see how that would be better than actually designing items that can be used in a more versatile manner across the whole game. Why would necessity be more valuable than utility when we’re talking about items?

@justaguy0507 @Paragraph212 @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx Funny, while I really enjoyed BotW I found it particularly unsatisfying for reasons like this. And of course the game forces the importance of key items, that’s how games work… It’s just that BotW gives you the only key items right at the start.

@cryp_be @Paragraph212 @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx That’s not a good thing lol. That means the value of OoT’s items is arbitrary. They’re important because the game forces that to be the case. BotW’s items feel so much more satisfying because they aren’t necessary yet you want out of your way to earn them and make the game easier

@Paragraph212 @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx Some are duds, sure, but needing to find an item that’s only used once is better than not needing to find any items at all. The runes don’t compare here because they’re fundamental abilities you get at the start of the game.

@cryp_be @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx Yeah, but other necessary items only get like 10 minutes of use in their respective dungeon before they collect dust in your inventory, so how would they be better? Their moment of necessity isn’t particularly long and they have less utility outside of it compared to the runes.

@Paragraph212 @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx Hard disagree. I love running into an unbeatable obstacle, wondering what I might need to overcome it then returning later with the right item. It’s immensely satisfying. Backtracking should be fun in a well designed game.

@cryp_be @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx I like the Metroidvania aspect when it’s contained within the dungeons, but I think it neuters overworld exploration, since those are designed to lure you towards interesting things in the horizon most of the time. Running into item gates and having to backtrack isn’t very fun.

Honestly, and I know I'll get hate for this, this is one of the reasons I hate zoomer 'nostalgia' for retro shit they never experienced. Analog sucks, it wasn't fun having to untangle a web of black spaghetti to get to your controller. No, Minecraft looks ugly, those 'low poly' graphics were from a very ugly transition stage, and we used to wish they looked better, it wasn't 'charming'. No, having to dedicate a whole shelf to discs and carts sucked, and I'm glad everything can fit into a flash card without me having to get off the couch and swap games.

@Paragraph212 @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx Right, all you need is four abilities that you get within 20 minutes in the starting area. A big part of what I love about pre-Wild Zelda was the Metroidvania aspect. Learning how to use a new item in a dungeon then using it in the world to unlock new areas/activities/secrets.

@cryp_be @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx All of the runes, yes. But I don’t think that necessity is value. Necessity without versatile utility just turns items into glorified keys rather than functional tools. I get a lot more use out of optional arrow types than something like the golden gauntlets you need for 1 rock

@Paragraph212 @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx Of course BotW has more variety, but it comes with little value. Is there an arrow type that’s needed in order to complete the game? Pretty sure you can beat it having never picked up a bow. Further, is there a single item that’s necessary to complete it?

@cryp_be @ReelRhoades @BB_Luffyxx So just comparing the bows, OoT has less arrow types that are also less dynamic, you don’t have triple shot bows, you aren’t capable of performing headshots, you can’t use it in midair and you can’t use the sound of an arrow to distract enemies. How is OoT's bow better?
