The Rational Animal 🤔

The average American today lives better than John D. Rockefeller did in 1926. That is not an exaggeration. It is a fact. Rockefeller could not fly across the country in five hours. You can for $200. He could not video call his family from another continent. You do it for free. He had no antibiotics, no MRI, no air conditioning in July. He could not carry every book ever written in his pocket. You are reading this on a device that does all of that and more. Americans throw away 30-40% of their food. Not because they are wasteful, but because food is so abundant that waste is affordable. Your car has climate control, navigation, and safety systems that did not exist at any price a century ago. Your home has heating, cooling, refrigeration, and entertainment that emperors could not have imagined. None of this was voted into existence. None of it was redistributed from the rich. It was created by free minds operating in what remains of a free market. Every comfort you enjoy today is the product of a man who thought, invented, produced, and traded voluntarily. This is what the remnants of capitalism still deliver, even while it is being dismantled. Imagine what a fully free society could build.

@thompsons21481 @NoahMHoskins @thistle_ki35141 I will email you a spreadsheet of the Republicans who voted in your city in 2024 but didn’t vote in 2022. It has addresses, phone numbers. If you want to help, knock their doors. Make phone calls. PM me your city and email address.

You’re right but. There a way more conservatives in Kansas. The problem is they only vote in big elections. The laziness of conservatives on these “off elections” is how control is lost at the local level. School boards, county boards, city councils all happen locally and usually in off years. EVERY ELECTION COUNTS!

The state of Colorado has now lost at the Supreme Court on cases where they tried to force a Christian baker to bake a cake for a gay wedding, force a Christian web designer to make gay wedding websites, and ban a Christian counselor from telling a boy he is not a girl. Maybe they should consider just leaving Christians alone.

30 years ago, the life of 20-year-old PSU student Carrie Williams was brutally taken. A neighbor stalked her, entered her home, and murdered her in a horrific act of violence. Her case was the 1st capital prosecution in KS after the state reinstated the death penalty in 1994. 1/

@TrishtheSkeptic @conor64 @alexanderrusso We need more than apologies. We need accountability- criminal and civil damages for the societal damage wrought by insufferable, arrogant institutions and individuals on a power binge.

Yes, I am one of those people. So much so I changed political parties over it. It changed who I am as a person, it changed who I was friends with, the impacts of the lockdowns on my life will always be felt. I wouldn’t be on Twitter if it weren’t for the lockdowns, nor would be Twitter bio still start with “lockdown skeptic”. I consider myself to be a pretty logical, data driven person, and it was clear to me from basically the second or third week of the lockdowns that much of our reaction was neither. Surely The Powers That Be knew we had to lift the lockdowns as soon as possible right? If we didn’t want to overwhelm the hospitals whilst admitting we couldn’t stop the virus why were we forcing everyone into masks? Surely it was obvious to more than just me masks would never work? The two biggest triggers that pushed me into the territory of “these people are all retarded” were a) The BLM riots being sanctioned by public health and so many of our elected officials, but we couldn’t have sports and picnics outside and b) the Cuomo Chips which was the stupidest thing and even my superlib friends made fun of I shouldn’t be smarter than the people in charge, but somehow I was. I have much much much more to say on the topic, I probably have 20 different Tweet threads I can easily name about it, as well as the information contained in “The Big Fail”, “In COVID’s Wake” and “An Abundance of Caution” which do a good job of summing up all the many, many, many factual errors “public health” made and continue to this day to make. They’ve never once apologized or admitted they were wrong BTW

A question for everyone: survey data suggests that by the end of the Covid-19 emergency trust in public health institutions had decreased significantly. If you are among the people who reacted that way, why specifically? I'm hoping for long, diverse, individualized answers.

Top five weather days in KC • the first real warm day in February/March • when everything is finally green and there’s a massive thunderstorm rolling in • first October night where you can see your breath • a ‘shut the city down’ snow around Christmas/New Year’s

@nycexpatmom It's going to be painful for a while, but we will survive and eventually thrive because of it. It won't be much different than the death of industrialization, the rise of the smart phone, etc. Those were enormous societal upheavals that we barely noticed until we noticed.
