Aerospace engineer here... Bird strikes are extremely rare, engine failure and stall is way more common comparatively, placing a structure that restricts airflow will decrease thrust, add extra weight, increase risk of engine failure, disrupt airflow into the engine, and ice will accumulate on the cage thingy blocking the engine completely mid flight, so it's a no-no

I have a very dumb question for airplane people. why can’t they put a cage thing on the front of the engine to block bird strikes?
