Random late night collegiate esport recruiting rant just bc.
It is actually so frustrating/difficult at times to recruit for games in collegiate esports. Idk if it’s just me being unlucky with the people i’ve spoken with, but the amount of Ascendant Val kids, or Plat/Low diamond LoL kids who i’ve spoken with saying they want a full ride, or “i’ll only pay a few thousand”
Like forsure, if i was talking to t50 radiant kids, or GM kids, you pay for their skill. But this community has built a wall of “full rides” or “90% cost of attendance” that just isn’t real/sustainable.
I understand and tell everyone I speak with that i understand we are a private school, so costs can be up, if it isn’t in your budget, no hard feelings. That’s not my point.
My point is the JV basketball player who averages 1.3 points per game asking for a full ride is absurd, but to even be relevant in games like LoL, you need at minimum a full diamond+ team. to be relevant in Val you need at minimum a full imm+ team. and that’s just to be somewhat relevant.
Like i said, maybe i’ve just been struck with the unlucky bug of kids to speak with, but wow it’s so insanely hard to even speak with kids.
Let alone half the kids i speak with don’t wanna talk about anything other than “what’s my scholarship” — 99% of those individuals don’t ask what the cost is, how much their total will be, just “what’s my scholarship” and when i ask them to just apply (we have a free application) so we can see what their total will be and so we can get them an exact scholarship amount *Ghosted*
Just frustrating times man, frustrating times.
Hahahahaha my bus never showed up so now I’m 2 hours behind schedule, gonna miss my connecting bus so idk when the fuck I’m gonna get to where I’m going
