This was a fun one. Joe Lynch is someone Iโve had the pleasure of becoming good friends with since our last Vegas soirรฉe a couple months back, and man, this guyโs encyclopedic knowledge of film and horror is unreal. We get into the highs and lows of directing, the reality of getting movies made, all of his films, BUZZKILL + MEATPAW, and more. This couldโve easily gone another 3 hours. OUT NOW! #pornstache

My 2ยข: I donโt think John Carpenter genuinely hated The Substance. I think he was mocking how horror culture has flipped, how it used to celebrate individuality, but now itโs become a big bandwagon driven cesspool of influencers and Letterboxd reviews. When a movie hits, it suddenly becomes the cool thing to like, and if you donโt, youโre treated like you donโt โgetโ movies. That conformity is the exact opposite of what horrorโs always stood for. To me, JC has always championed the outsider, the individual resisting the group. His worlds are built on mistrust of authority and mob mentality, like Halloweenโs suburban denial of evil, The Thingโs paranoia tearing men apart in isolation, They Liveโs rebellion against mass consumer hypnosis. Imo his films have always warned what happens when people stop thinking for themselves. So him shrugging off The Substance feels less like disdain for the movie and more like disdain for the culture that blindly crowns it untouchable.

The shit I get for defending Rob Zombie is truly insane. Itโs a hill Iโm willing to die on though. This cult mentality where if a big enough group hates somebody, then everyone has to join or youโre not a โtrue horror fan,โ itโs exhausting. And honestly, the opposite of what this genre is supposed to be about. We pride ourselves on being outsidersโฆ until itโs time to hate Rob Zombie. Then itโs groupthink or get out.

"A man goes to the movies and the critic must be honest enough to admit that he is that man."
"One of the purposes of journalism is to CHALLENGE that kind of thinking. And certainly one of the purposes of criticism is to break boundaries, it is also one of the purposes of ART."
"What you're really doing is ventriloquism, you see, they're not saying what they think - they're projecting their ideas into another politically correct persona and trying to pretend that that persona reflects their ideas, and that is tragic."

Happy Halloween, spooky kids! This day has started it all for so many of us, where the veil between the spirit realm and ours is at its thinnest. Stay safe and eat lots of candy!
P.S. โ Episode 16 with Tom OโNeill is being delayed. We talk a lot about individuals on the outskirts of the Manson Family & the CIA, which makes it inherently harder to accrue assets for. Iโve spent upwards of $600 on archival footage so far to include some rare shots of what weโre discussing in this episode.
Most creators nowadays post their content like a shotgun. Theyโll blast you with as many videos as they can, maximizing on spread. Many of the videos will fail, either in performance, or most of the time, in substance, but one pellet will hit. I like to think of my content more like a sniper. One shot, right between the eyes, and deliberate. Between compromising the visual quality and posting the episodes in a uniform manner, Iโll always choose quality.
It is almost done though! Give me just a few more days, maybe a week, and our best episode to date will be ready for you.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN ๐

๐จ OUT NOW! Joe Coleman, the iconic artist whose work digs into the darkest corners of human existence, joins us in the Crypt to discuss everything from painting serial killers like Carl Panzram, Albert Fish, and Ed Gein, to sharing the secrets of his controversial art. Join us as we delve into the contradictory beauty of the grotesque and the divine.
Joe takes us inside his Odditorium, a personal collection as eerie as his paintings, where he houses macabre artifacts like a painting by John Wayne Gacy, the actual letter Albert Fish sent to Grace Budd's mother, a lock of Charles Manson's hair, and a Christmas card from Ed Gein. These relics serve as a tangible connection, DNA, to the energy that Joe channels into his art.
We explore the paradoxes of life and death that permeate Joe's art, discuss his fascination with the redacted stories of the Bible, the corruption of the soul and flesh, and dive into his experiences selling art to icons like HR Giger, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Iggy Pop.

I colorized these photographs of Ed Gein for an upcoming episode and thought the results were too incredible not to share. Itโs fascinating how these events have always been seen in black and white, but with advancements in technology, weโre able to see different dimensions of these once lifeless images weโve grown so used to. Seeing these in color makes them feel much less like distant folklore, and more like a vivid, unsettling truth.
