New formulation: "There are three types of complexity: inherent, engineered and social". Hint: nr 1 is the easiest.

I never thought I'd be passionate about IdM -- Identity Management -- but here I am. Continued 0 days since I just couldn't do the things that I needed with the accounts I have. "Our system has been upgraded - to login you have to reset your password".

I was going to play, but now I'm debugging email servers instead. How did we get here? I'd rather blow on my cartridges instead.

Computer languages that tend to gravitate their text to the left as opposed to deeply nest things to the right are more pleasing to the eye and easier to understand in my opinion. Or maybe this is just style? What's your take?

Writing a low level metal renderer in C/C++ and listening to Ride the Lightning, just like 30 years ago when I was in my teens. Only difference is that back then it was OpenGL, and 6 am was a late night, not an early morning.

Similar to the other thread. What are your most important best practice implementation tips? Mine: NEVER write directly to the destination file. Write to temp file with unique/random file name and do atomic rename to dest file when done. Guarantees no 1/2-written files. Yours?

What are some key “best practice” systems or features every game/program/system *should* have? I’ll start: * A “kill switch system” through which you can enable/disable full systems or single features thereof. For debugging, crash avoidance, A/B testing, etc. Your turn!

I don't mind paying every year for a new version of a software, i.e. voting with my wallet actively. I am allergic to automatic software subscriptions. Sad to see that paying for software is all going subscription model. Now I have to find alternatives to some of my staples.
