A soggy morning turned into a great afternoon. Plenty of #highbrownfritillary and my first oviposition sightings of both high brown and dark green! I even found the dark green egg!

The answer is not a lot. What was forecast to be a bright day turned to mizzle. Although another first for the field season...getting soaked whilst walking through wet Bracken.

Yesterday saw no high browns but bought the first 3 confirmed #darkgreenfritillary sightings of the season. 1 already had wing damage. What will today bring?

On our #MorecambeBay Blossom and Butterfly walk today we saw neither! Too early and too cold:( But we did see intrepid student Tash from @edgehill uni surveying #HighBrown #Fritillary habitat, here counting 23 violets in this m quadratic. Great work! Roll on summer:-)

The first #HighBrownFritillary has been seen at the Heddon Valley today, and their emergence will peak over the next 2-3 weeks. If you're spotting other butterflies the dark green fritillaries and small pearl-bordered fritillaries are also out as well.
