For those that appear to begrudge pensioners their state pension just remember that the majority of these people worked from the age of 16yrs until retirement paying their taxes. Compare that to today when there are millions on benefits not paying any taxes but will still receive a state pension. Also the state pension is well below the living wage & yet a lot of pensioners are expected to get by with no additional help unlike people on benefits.

Instead of demonising pensioners, do we not think it might be a good idea to have the best state pensions in the world? You are all going to be pensioners one day, if you’re lucky.

I paid in for 50 years! From my first supermarket Saturday job aged 15! Been paying in ever since. As well as income tax and no break in employment. Ever!

@Sargon_of_Akkad It wouldn't be an issue if we werent giving away billions in foreign aid and to foreign nationals. The pensioners are not the problem.

@Sargon_of_Akkad Dude your talking about less than £10k p.a. 5% of fuck all is still fuck all. The triple lock was introduced to stop pensioners dying from cold and malnutrition, and to buy an election, but there are far more egregious examples of government spending that should be cut than this.

Current UK OAP = £241 per week. Only around 50% of pensioners actually receive the full amount due to gaps in contributions. Pensions are only half of the UK benefits bill. There are, however, nearly 2 million foreign nationals who have not paid in, but claim Universal Credit. Today's pensioners have no way of influencing their income. And in any event, they will inevitably pass on relatively soon. Change if you must, but you have to implement the changes with people who have enough working years left to make alternative arrangements. Top tip for Restore Britain @RestoreBritain_ . You are getting lots of support from British seniors who have worked all their lives. Try not to fuck it up.

National Insurance isn’t a pot. It’s a Ponzi scheme. But welfare is the real problem, not pensions. Want to cut costs? Focus on the system that’s being abused. Contribution-based welfare fixes that. Pay in, get out. Everyone earns their keep.

This is Democrat Judge Matthew Barrett.
