Many Christians quietly struggle with anxiety, worry, and fear. That’s why I wrote Overcoming Anxiety God’s Way, a short biblical guide through Philippians 4:4–9. My prayer is that it will help readers find hope and help. Available now on Amazon: amzn.to/3PEstOs

@PastorRyanA No, because if someone is doing that, then they aren't actually following God's law; they made up their own.

@markwwill Legalism is following God's law and expecting that to earn salvation, no?

🔥📖🔥 —Jay E. Adams There are only two kinds of life, the feeling-motivated life of sin oriented toward self, and the commandment-motivated life of holiness oriented toward godliness.

@PastorRyanA We may just be arguing semantics at this point. I am commandment-motivated, because God is my Father. Not to earn salvation but because He is God and His commands are best. For Clarity: the original post (and my comments) have assumed we are talking about Believers, not everyone.

@PastorRyanA That doesn't prove anything. I can make the same assertion. That IS how Paul uses legalism.

@PastorRyanA Commandment-motivated and out of love for God are equal statements. Legalism is not seeking to obey God's commands; that's called obedience. Legalism is following man's commands and thinking you are doing something for God.

@markwwill Totally agree with that statement. But Adams, in the quote provided, puts our striving for godliness as motivated by the law, not by love. That is a major error.

I’ve been encouraged by the response to Overcoming Anxiety God’s Way. Grateful for the ways the Lord is using His Word to steady anxious hearts. If you’d like to take a look: amzn.to/3PEstOs “The God of peace will be with you” (Phil. 4:9)

Don't believe everything you hear about God wanting you to be comfortable, wealthy, or entertained. God's purpose isn't your happiness or pleasure; it's His own glory. #Theology #Faith

@PastorRyanA Love is not an emotion. Biblically is acting for the selfless godly good of another. Emotions are involved, but they do not lead. To Love God with all our heart soul mind and strength is to obey Him, it's not good feelings.

@markwwill I thoroughly disagree. We are called to be motivated toward the holiness and the commandments by love. We love because He first loved us. We aren't called to be motivated toward holiness by the commandments themselves. This is the way of legalism and is roundly rejected by Paul.
