Our new study is in the NYT this morning: nytimes.com/2021/08/20/bus… And my coauthor @arindube is tweeting the details 👇🏼 In short: the vast majority of people whose pandemic unemployment benefits were cancelled in June did not find new jobs by the beginning of August.
Arin Dube@arindube

🚨New study using new bank-transaction level data: What did ending pandemic UI do to jobs, income, spending?🚨 We find: *Large drop in share receiving UI *For every 8 losing UI, 1 found job by Aug *Added earnings made up for only 7% of benefit loss *Large 20% drop in spending 1/

With Elon Musk’s Twitter slowly falling apart, it seems we have no choice but to return to social media sites run by older and more experienced operators. @AlexAmared, do you still have the credentials for the CUSIDnet phpBB?

@nomadj1s Others have pointed out the closest analogs to AWS: Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure. Outside the big 3, there are plenty of smaller competitors like Digital Ocean. If you’re already storing code on GitHub, another option is to run code using GitHub Actions on GitHub runners.

Question: suppose I want use something like AWS for computational power, for Python or Stata, but I don’t want to use Amazon. Is their a comparable alternative?

As a company from eastern Germany, we know that building a wall to try and keep people from leaving isn't a good idea.

@KiraboJackson Not precisely what you're looking for, but the related case that I see unfortunately often is an underpowered and noisy placebo test saying "the CI includes zero".

#EconTwitter #statstwitter does anyone know of examples of papers with large and noisy treatment FX and address this by saying something like "well, the CI includes plausible values."?

In the unit next to Canadaland's office lived the artist John Scott. For years we passed in the halls without conversation, until the pandemic, when it seemed like we were the only two people in the building. He was kind, vulnerable, and lonely. Today I learned that he has died.

@borusyak @p_ganong pre-registered an observational analysis of UI data this past summer, and tweeted about it. It even paid dividends weeks later when Peter pointed to the pre-registration in response to (bad faith) critiques that scientists were cherry picking data re UI expiration.

Hi #Econtwitter, do you know if I can pre-register an observational study, similarly to how the AEA holds the RCT register? Any links or past examples would be appreciated.
