@middxguy @Mockbeggar16 @_paullay It’s actually the other way around with County and Forest. County are in the City and Forest are in the County
Hope that’s cleared things up 😃

Perhaps it is significant that Arsenal are just about the only English football club that is not named after anywhere.
Obadiah Mbatang@residentadviser
Arsenal is like Sybil for what the online right (often racist-ishly) call “Yookay”. Unites the roadmen in North and South with the white middle classes and upper middle classes.
English

@Mockbeggar16 @_paullay The county of Nottingham has both Nottingham Forest (primarily for the city, I assume) and Notts County with a wider remit. Adjacent is Derbyshire, which has Derby County, but there isn't a team for the city itself.
English

@Mockbeggar16 @_paullay Going in the opposite direction, there are some teams that cover wider areas than just a town/city, for example Notts County.
English

@_paullay Apologies for digressing, but for English league teams outside London, are Everton , Aston Villa, Tranmere Rovers, & Port Vale the only teams named after districts rather than their town or city?

Build up of House Martin activity this morning. One in-tact nest has been active for a few weeks though no sign of hatching. Now a new pair have arrived. Second photo: discussion about repairing a broken nest .

@NparsonsNick @OrioleBirding Wow. “Showy” and Corncrake don’t normally go together!
English

Just winding up another great @Oriolebirding trip to the Outer Hebs. Birds galore.Loads of (both) eagles, SEOs and Hen Harriers. Long-tailed and Pom Skuas, 3 White wingers, White-billed Diver and American Wigeons. Two Red-necked Phals at the death today and this showy Corncrake.

@fulhamopera @amwilson_opera @NoisyMV @ClassicalExplo1 Leoncavallo’s Musette (sic) is such a luscious role for a mezzo.

@middxguy @amwilson_opera @NoisyMV @ClassicalExplo1 I rather fancy this will be a revelation! Leoncavallo's Bohème at the Regio: that melodic effusion & inverted voice types make it essential. Goryachova will be sensational.
English

Here's a rarity for verismo lovers: a full production of Leoncavallo's Boheme in a major opera house. There are 6 performances in Oct-Nov 2026. Ironically, at Teatro Regio,Turin, birthplace of Puccini's opera. @amwilson_opera @NoisyMV @ClassicalExplo1 teatroregio.torino.it/opera-e-ballet…

@hugh_canning @amwilson_opera @NoisyMV @ClassicalExplo1 @wexfordopera I’d like to claim that I was taken to the Camden performance in a push chair.😂😂😂 But it’s not very convincing, is it?
English

@middxguy @amwilson_opera @NoisyMV @ClassicalExplo1 @wexfordopera Oh yes, I’d forgotten the ENO one! Thanks 🙏🏼 Your Camden 1970 trumps my Wexford 😬😂🤣😂
English

@hugh_canning @amwilson_opera @NoisyMV @ClassicalExplo1 @wexfordopera Well, I attended the UK premiere at the Camden Festival in 1970!
I’ve seen it since: ENO Italian season in 2000,Theater and der Wien in 2002
English

@middxguy @amwilson_opera @NoisyMV @ClassicalExplo1 Hihi - I’ve seen it, of course @wexfordopera, where else? 😈😂🤣🤣
English

@FerretKingRT @amwilson_opera @NoisyMV @ClassicalExplo1 Why not hop on a plane? It will be a proper production in a major opera house, so I am hoping it will really showcase the unappreciated delights of this opera.
English

@middxguy @amwilson_opera @NoisyMV @ClassicalExplo1 My goodness, Leoncavallo's Bohème at the Regio! Amazing to see this rarity. Green with envy! The reversed vocal roles must be fascinating.
English

@NoisyMV I don't know what the latest academic research claims, but I'll always be convinced that Puccini got the idea from Leoncavallo. Look at the way he responded to the issue of "whose idea was it?" by switching the subject to "let's compete". Should have been a politician.
English

@middxguy Poor old Leoncavallo - Puccini really did him over with that one!
Lovely to hear about Iris.

@ethe_a58369 @Nachtigall_Ost Sorry for the omission of an important “not”. Should have been: “does *not mean”. But I suspect people understood what I meant.
English

@ethe_a58369 @Nachtigall_Ost German was a concept covering language, culture and race for centuries. To call an Austrian “German” does mean they have citizenship of the Federal Republic of Germany, it means they share the same, much wider, cultural and language background.
