It’s possible the English-speaking translator lived in the U.S. and knew what Speed was hinting at but Alofoke doesn’t. This is not a commonly known stereotype amongst islanders and black Dominicans and Haitians here aren’t associated with watermelon. All Alofoke wanted there was for him to try some of the local fruit it’s not this insidious racist interaction.
