@ChurchOfMoons They viewed animation as an art form rather than just casual entertainment for young children (although they also made animation for children). They also wanted to set themselves apart from American animation, which is why it feels so different.

It's really interesting that Russian animation became a lot less interesting when the Soviet Union fell.
