Sebi is reportedly considering introducing performance fees in #mutualfunds. This is a bad idea. Why? 1) MFs are simple to understand, simple to invest. They need to stay simple. 2) Performance fees incentivize excessive risk taking. 3) Benchmarks can be gamed and performance fees maximized. 4) Calculating and levying it is difficult. 5) PMS and AIFs have performance fees, they don't do any better than MFs and often do worse.
