The 2025 DAFM Rec List for spring beans has been published. Really thrilled to have Protina at the top of the list; a great combination of yield potential & agronomics. Caprice also a proven performer with earlier ripening. Link to list 👉🏻 #page=null" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">gov.ie/pdf/?file=http… 🌱🌞🌱
We talk about cover crops etc but I don’t think there is any crop better for the land than beans. They’re better than any crop I’ve seen to penetrate through the profile, they fix N and the haulm is usually chopped and returned to the soil. 🌱👌
Caprice beans getting a move on in this growthy weather. Spring wheat plots after beans moving too. This soil was pictured after beans last October, I love what they do for the soil. They’re a wonderful break crop. @phpetersen
With land drying out, it’s a great chance to plant Caprice spring beans. Werner on my right is the breeder of the variety Caprice (& many more)I don’t know anyone who knows more about the bean crop. We visited him at his breeding location in Germany last year. The man is a genius.
Caprice beans pictured in East Cork in 2022. A great set of ratings on the Irish Recommended list. Good earliness of ripening, best aggregate of disease ratings and topped off with the highest Protein % on the market.
