The guy squirting water into Zach Ertz’s mouth is Joe O’Pella. He’s an athletic trainer that’s been with the team for over 15 years at this point. NFL teams don’t really have water boys, athletic trainers are usually the ones responsible for having water on the practice field and during games, but this post is absolutely hilarious. A guy who rehabbed my ACL tear in my second year, has a masters degree from Pitt, and has years of experience keeping Eagles players healthy and on the field being called a “Waterboy” is crazy, and I’m already giving him shit for it, but good lord this post is so wildly misleading. Either way, thought I’d clear the air, that the people with Water Bottles during games actually serve much bigger roles on NFL Teams.

Wow: NFL waterboys earn over 3 THOUSAND dollars per game, which averages out to more than $50K per season, not including tips. Waterboys also attend practices, handle locker room prep, and travel with the team. What a fantastic job to have 💸📈

I’ve seen a number of accounts, some school accounts likely run by young people and other young journalists, who report losing scores first. The proper way to list a score is the winning score first every single time. Your team did not lose 68-75. They lost 75-68. Thank you.

Lesson to be learned here with the @IHSA_IL football situation... By-laws that do not protect the health and safety of student-athletes should not be allowed to be placed on the ballot. The Legislative Commissioners who voted yes to put the original football proposal of only 10 practices on the ballot, should have been the oversight needed in this situation. They knew exactly what they were doing, and did it anyway...

@PBL_Football @Coach_Clod @WIVCFootball SMAC is here for a reason, believe it or not, and their guidance (which is expert, science based guidance) was ignored so that conferences could have stability. Kids’ lives are more at risk in exchange for conference stability. That’s the trade off

@tannerkrum @Coach_Clod @WIVCFootball It's a major issue when you are on a committee and call people uneducated when they have a different view point than you. Our district took our time and talked through many things(pros/cons) before making our vote.

Sorry if you don’t like my opinion. You are entitled to your own but the way this is being handled and how it was presented to where we are now. It hasn’t been exactly handled the best. And like the SMAC committee said. Not many kids on losing teams want an extra game.

@PBL_Football @tannerkrum @WIVCFootball I am also fairly certain I read where SMAC said that 9 days were plenty when this first came into action…Now it’s back to 12? Let’s not move the goalpost every time something doesn’t fit an agenda. This has been a mess for US-w/ an out of state opponent.

@Coach_Clod @PBL_Football @WIVCFootball As do I. I’m still trying to find people who voted FOR this change. They are quiet. Unfortunately in a democracy uneducated voters still have a voice. Yes that is why we are in this predicament.

@tannerkrum @PBL_Football @WIVCFootball No. I want it to go back to the way it was. I want sensible people voting and not making change just to make change without it being thought through. It obviously wasn’t thought all the way through, or WE wouldn’t still be having discussions.

@tannerkrum @PBL_Football @WIVCFootball Next novel idea, maybe make summer permissible to be required? Problem solved and no acclimatization needed. If you get a move in, check their status with former coach. Follow 7 day rule.

@PBL_Football @WIVCFootball Acclimatization has to protect the most vulnerable kid, which is the one that shows up day 1 of practice and wasn’t there all summer. Summer practice cannot be required for athletes. So everyone starts on day 1 of in season practice together

@WIVCFootball SMAC is great with many of insights(not all) & something we need. While here can someone from SMAC(I know wants less contact) explain why athletes who are SPs & Helmets for up to 17 days in July needed to go back to helmets a week later? Not meant as argument just want thinking

The Sports Medicine Advisory Committee advised against such a proposal multiple times, for an extended period of time but were seemingly ignored. Please consider this when it seems easy to lay the blame on a very qualified group of professionals

IHSA SMAC meeting minutes showing multiple concerns before the initial vote in fall of 2025. Also blurb from fall of 2024 showing initial concerns of football expansion. It’s my belief people knew the concerns they didn’t want to listen. #ihsa #football …sets-prod.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com/documents/adv-…

For multi-sport athletes: ⚾️ Regional championships are May 29. Sectionals into first week of June. 🏀 Summer league basketball eats up most of June. 🏈 Practices will now possibly start August 5. 🏈 Week 1 games are August 21. Where did summer go for our high school athletes?
