@BobSegallWTHR So what happens in high temperatures this summer in that un-air-conditioned cell house without even air vents and fans?

This issue goes back to at least 2017, when Joshua Devine was burned to death in his cell while correctional officers didn’t respond for at least 30 minutes with no sprinklers or working radios. DOC blamed him, but it wasn’t his fault. It’s a problem we should all care about.

#WTHR released our 13 Investigates documentary BURNED ALIVE exactly one month ago. Since then, more than half a million people have watched the investigation, and it's now getting a lot of attention from the governor and state lawmakers. Here's an update...

Respect isn’t given, it’s earned. STATE CHAMPION Luke Ertel shows up every day for middle school lunch duty Today at noon, he walked into the cafeteria, & 415 students rose up clapping and cheering. Bigger than basketball. @BoilerBall #selfless #champion #basketball #BoilerUp

The Ivey situation is just really sad for everybody involved. Especially so close to what happens to Rondale and thinking about Biggie too. I really hope somebody can get him some help.

Warning: This is long winded and unedited - posting my thoughts as they come. It sucks man. But I woke up this morning. I remember Hummel going down and that killed me as a kid. Sucks we lost but I’m so proud of the seniors and my alma mater And I’m glad they got a full 4 years of injury free basketball. There are no “what-ifs” that’ll stay with me for the next 15 years so that’s one good thing. We got to see these guys give everything they had for four seasons. PJ Thompson always brings up “leaving the jersey in a better place” than when you started your career. No doubt in anyone’s minds that’s what this class did. Only 3 CBB programs during their careers were better - UConn, Florida and whoever wins this year’s natty. That’s it. Purdue was a top-5 team for the better part of their 4 years. That’s the new standard that they set. It sucks that this year had to be the year when CBB was better than it’s been in, what seems like, 10+ years. If PURDUE was preseason ranked 6-10 instead of #1, everyone would agree that a big ten title and elite 8 is a good year. Even with the added context, this year was still a successful year. And I’m glad we checked another box that hadn’t been checked before: Preseason #1. I don’t think the last two preseason #1 even made the second weekend btw. Purdue has peaked in March for three straight seasons. That never used to happen. Not only did the Big 3 make every teammate better, they made the coaches better. Matt Painter is a better coach now than he was in 2022. The program experienced so much in four years that will benefit it going forward. Purdue isn’t going anywhere. I’ve said for a while now that 2027-28 will be another chance like this year. After following my “neighbor” Luke Ertel for the last three years, I’ve even said this year has been about whether Purdue gets 1 or 2 nattys in the next 5 years because Ertel will get one. Luke Ertel and co. will win one, I firmly believe that. I like my own analogy comparing winning a title to chopping down a tree when you can’t see its width. Every single Purdue class in the last decade has taken a big time swing at the tree. There’s no question Purdue is closer to a natty now than it was ten years ago. And do you think Purdue is closer now than 4 years ago, after the Big 3’s careers? Every season since Haas went down on the way to a second weekend in 2018-19 has paved the way for what Purdue is now. It’s one of CBBs best programs. That Carsen-Cline elite 8 team helped us land Jaden Ivey. How many young kids grew up idolizing Purdue’s Jaden Ivey? The success of Ivey’s two seasons brought us a class Smith-Loyer-TKR. And now the most decorated senior class in Purdue history gives way to Purdue’s BEST recruiting class under Matt Painter. Step-by-step, Purdue has improved as a program YoY for 10 straight seasons. Every single player since, and including, Caleb Swanigan gets credit. Of course there were ups and downs each season along the way. If you look from the players’ perspectives - they only get 4 years max and I bet they feel like they failed if they don’t make a final 4 or win it all. But if you look at it from Matt Painter’s perspective, it’s clearly been this 📈 for a decade-plus. As a kid I used to be stoked if Purdue was ranked at all lol. I would see #18 or #24 next to Purdue and think we were winning it all. What Matt Painter has done here is elite. He’s turned Purdue, right now, into a top-5 program in CBB. His national title is coming. And nights like last night will make it feel that much better for us true fans and alumni when it does. Purdue will be very, very good next season. It should be a fun season where, again, Purdue finds itself playing its best ball late in the year. If you told me we made the Final Four next year, I wouldn’t be surprised. Thank you Braden Smith, Fletcher Loyer and Trey Kaufman-Renn. You gave the program your all and left it in the best spot it’s ever been. 🚂🏀

An era of Purdue basketball ended in the Bay last night. A tradition of torch passing goes to the next crew. "It doesn't matter who leaves. They've all left an impact and it's up to us now to instill that into the younger players." - Gicarri Harris jconline.com/story/sports/c…
