The difference wasn't better memes it was better holders.
Back then, every holder had a thesis. People knew why they owned a coin, shared that thesis constantly, and were willing to hold for months or even years. That's how you got 10x, 50x, and 100x moves.
Today, the average holding time is measured in seconds. Everyone is racing to flip for a few percent. There's no conviction, no story, and no reason for new buyers to stay.
Retail doesn't want to buy a coin just to hold it for 30 seconds. They want a simple narrative they can believe in and hold through an entire bull market.
The highest ceiling meme category has always been mascots.
Last cycle, BONK and WIF became the faces of Solana because their communities had conviction. They held long enough for retail to arrive, and that's how those coins reached multi billion dollar market caps.
This cycle, Solana is already outperforming the rest of crypto. It needs a new mascot retail can believe in.
