Your analysis is completely flawed.
Urban areas produce nothing but a service economy and inflated housing values.
Wealth originates in the countryside and the rural west and north is tired of it being squandered.

There is a very common conservative fantasy where large swathes of rural land decouple themselves politically from the dense population centers where all the money comes from.
You see it with Western/Upstate New Yorkers all the time in terms of breaking away from NYC.

This is the future of Canada: Alberta leaves. Québec as well. Saskatchewan follows. The NWT joins Alberta. Yukon too. Nunavut follows. Rural BC chooses Alberta. Vancouver chooses Singapore option. Newfoundland remembers they used to be a country and that they have oil. A weakened and obsolete Canadian rump state remains.
