It seems Joe Kent became aware that the FBI was investigating leaks of classified information that may have come from him. So, like the Shrewd Steward, he cozied up to an influential group: the groypers and their enablers. Kent suspected he would soon be persona non grata among the military and MAGA, so he made himself a cause de celebre among the anti-MAGA faction. Just my reading of the publicly available information.
