I’m sad to share that my friend Carl Dawkins has passed away. I’ve known Carl for around four years. He was one of the original Lion’s Share members back when I was basically a noob in this space with just a vision. He took a call from me anyway. As two Brits with our fair share of anxieties and life scars, we clicked straight away. He advised me, mentored me, and as my own network started to grow, I tried to give some of that support back to him too. We never met in person, but we spoke on the phone from time to time and shared not just crypto, but real personal challenges we’d both faced. Carl was in this space for the right reasons. He loved crypto and was a smart, articulate and deeply intelligent force in trying to drag this industry out of the shadows and into legitimate markets. What most people don’t realise is just how much he actually did for the space: he helped raise multi-millions for projects, including an $11M ICO, led campaigns that took tokens 10x–190x, listed projects on 30+ CEXs/DEXs, and worked with some of the biggest names and teams in crypto. He even sat on a UK APPG for crypto regulation at the House of Commons/Lords, pushing for clearer rules and a better future for the industry. He was the first guest ever on our Lion’s Share Spaces, back in 2023. His stories, personal challenges and larger-than-life personality absolutely shone through, and I know he helped a lot of people who listened in. Since his passing, I’ve learned even more about him, that he was a serious bass player in rock bands, an accomplished musician, a talented writer and interviewer, and that he even appeared on major news channels like Sky News. None of that surprises me. Carl was one of the good guys in this space. He will be deeply missed.
