@BankofAmerica, the second-largest banking institution in the United States and the second-largest bank in the world by market cap, placed South Africa’s equity market ahead of its Eastern Europe, Middle Eastern and African counterparts in its latest Equity Strategist report for April.

About a year ago, we shared why South Africa was a key part of our investment focus. Fast forward 12 months: the JSE All Share has returned more than 4 times the S&P 500, leaving broader emerging market and European indices well behind. Foreign investors have been piling into South African stocks at a pace not seen in two decades.

It was a privilege to meet with Mr. Dumisani Sondlo in our South African offices this week. I believe he currently stewards one of the most consequential portfolios for the future of our country. As an architect of our National AI Policy he is helping to define the terms of South Africa’s economic sovereignty for years to come. How we navigate this transition will directly determine the future of employment in our country. We have to grow meaningful human participation in the economy as we unlock new opportunities for our people. I look forward to continuing to engage with Dumisani in the months ahead.

I was pleased to attend today’s press conference announcing the opening of Bahamas Wellness Health System’s first hospital facility on a Family Island: the Eleuthera Wellness Hospital. Operations begin tomorrow, with a formal grand opening on November 28th. This marks an important step in expanding access to quality healthcare across the islands made possible by an exceptional team whose dedication, vision and faith continue to inspire confidence in the future of island healthcare. It’s been a privilege to support this initiative since our investment last year.

Today on the last day of June, I reflect on the @CyrilRamaphosa Administration & @TreasuryRSA who just delivered a back-to-back primary budget surplus. 1st time in 16 yrs! $ZAR strengthened vs $USD and South African bills were 3.19x oversubscribed, meaning there was not enough debt to sell to investors due to excessive investor demand in SA bills. Great momentum and discipline for Africa’s most industrialized economy!
