@PrideOfTheTide @AP_Top25 According to my records, Alabama has dropped 2 or more spots after being idle three other times before yesterday:
9/5/89 Week 1 / #16 > #19 (-3)
9/18/72 Week 2 / #5 > #7 (-2)
9/19/66 Week 1 / #1 > #3 (-2)
There were 12 instances where they just dropped 1 spot from 1937 to 2014.

I don't track the @AP_Top25 during bye weeks. I go game to game. Don't know where dropping 3 spots without playing ranks all time for Alabama. I do know in 1966, UA was ranked No. 1 preseason & without playing a game, it dropped to 3 by the next poll

One of the problems with this argument is that the media/fans also have issues with the CFP rankings even as late as they come out. Plus you'll never completely rid any rankings of blue blood bias regardless of who publishes them.

If @TexasFootball and @OhioStateFB are the top two teams in the @AP_Top25 preseason poll on Monday, it will set up a #1 vs #2 matchup in Week 1 for the first time ever. The earliest previous matchup was also between the #Horns and #Buckeyes on 9/9/06.
