SCOOP: A Phoenix police sergeant was armed and masked while off-duty at a student led anti-ICE protest. According to the report we’ve obtained, Dusten Mullen’s goal was to let teens assault him and “get all these kids in jail.” fox10phoenix.com/news/let-them-…

Congress has literally never once ended a war through the War Powers Act since its passage in 1973.

JD Vance has been working "behind the scenes" with pro-Israel megadonor Paul Singer to raise money for the RNC and has also been "cultivating ties" with Miriam Adelson, Jeff Yass, Stephen A. Schwarzman and John Paulson, the NYT reports. "[Vance] has drawn close, perhaps surprisingly so, to one of the Republican Party's top fund-raisers: Mr. Singer." "Mr. Vance and Mr. Singer, people close to both men said, talk regularly by phone and text. Mr. Singer recently contributed the maximum, $443,000, to the R.N.C. at Mr. Vance's request." "Last October, Mr. Vance hosted more than 40 members of Mr. Singer's donor network, the American Opportunity Alliance, at the Vice President’s Residence for breakfast, according to three people with knowledge of the gathering." "Mr. Vance has also developed a relationship with Miriam Adelson, the widow of the casino magnate Sheldon Adelson who strongly supports Israel and who spent over $100 million to boost Mr. Trump's most recent campaign. He spent New Year's Eve with Ms. Adelson and Ms. Vance at Mar-a-Lago, with the two women seated next to another and hitting it off, according to two people with knowledge of the hangout."

WHO IS THE U.S. NEGOTIATING WITH IN IRAN? As Trump searches for a friendly successor to the Ayatollah in Tehran, the leadership vacuum in the Iranian regime has been filled by hard-line members of the Revolutionary Guard. My latest story for @newyorker newyorker.com/news/the-lede/…

On Monday the Trump admin will launch the tariff refund system for the $166 billion in tariffs they illegally collected. And all of that money will go to companies. 56,497 importers are set to get refunds so far, with no requirement they pass that money along to customers.

⛪️ Pope Leo XIV is in Africa on an 11-day apostolic tour, currently in Cameroon on the third day of a four-country visit that began in Algeria and will continue to Angola and Equatorial Guinea. In the city of Bamenda, he condemned a “handful of tyrants” who ravage the world with "killing and devastation," spending billions on military force, while resources for healing, education, and restoration remain scarce. “It takes only a moment to destroy, yet often a lifetime is not enough to rebuild,” he said, following attacks from US President Trump for the Catholic leader’s criticism of America’s war of choice with Iran. He also criticized foreign actors who “exploit and plunder” Africa’s resources, only to channel that wealth into weapons that fuel further instability and death. At St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Bamenda, he convened a peace meeting bringing together religious and community leaders to address the Anglophone Crisis—a nine-year separatist conflict that has killed more than 6,500 people and displaced over 650,000. The Pope led a dialogue including a Mankon traditional chief, a Presbyterian moderator, a Muslim imam, and a Catholic nun, praising their joint “Movement for Peace” as a model for interfaith cooperation in resolving conflict.
