Iran spent decades cultivating its allies, but the Houthis, Iraqi militias, and other sympathetic forces have plenty of reason to stay on the sidelines—at least for now. newyorker.com/news/the-lede/…

This piece by @AshleyRParker left me in tears. For all WaPo alumni, the years at the paper were by far the best experience of our lives. We did ambitious stories, nothing seemed out of reach. I once spent six months in a village in deep Congo to tell the story of the war.

I arrived at The Post during a personal and professional nadir. But they welcomed me into their merry band of misfits, and believed in me — so I started believing in myself, too. My ode to what makes The Post so special. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹theatlantic.com/politics/2026/…

Heartbroken to see the decimation of WaPo, especially its foreign staff, my former home for 18 years. It was a privilege collaborating with amazing WaPo colleagues in the Mideast, North Africa, Ukraine. All those coverage areas are gone now. How could @JeffBezos let this happen?
Ben Mullin@BenMullin

A staggering statement from former Washington Post editor Marty Baron: "This ranks among the darkest days in the history of one of the world's greatest news organizations."

As I read my ex- coworkers personal pleas to save @washingtonpost , I have one word for @JeffBezos : Legacy. Do you want to be remembered as the great man who created Amazon AND gutted an American institution synonymous with Watergate? Do the right thing, Mr. Bezos. #SavethePost

As @washingtonpost international & local correspondents, we have repeatedly risked our lives, side by side, because we believe that clear-eyed reporting from the ground serves the public good. To cut off that engine of brave, committed colleagues would be devastating. #SaveThePost @JeffBezos.

I was on WaPo’s foreign staff for 18 years including in Iraq and Afghanistan. No matter how expensive the costs, then owner @dongrahamdc1 viewed foreign reporting as part of WaPo’s DNA. @JeffBezos Please make this your legacy as well. Your pockets are a lot deeper. #SavethePost

Update on turmoil at the Washington Post that I’ve been following w @BenMullin: Foreign correspondents at WaPo have sent a letter, a “collective plea,” to owner Jeff Bezos raising alarm over impending staff reductions, which are expected to land hard on international coverage.

In ISIS detention facilities in Syria, inmates don’t know who the current US President and the Syrian president are. They don’t even know that the Assad regime has fallen. And in the camps, ISIS remains active exploiting a fragile Syria and US aid cuts. wsj.com/world/middle-e…
