My daily look at the real meaning behind the UN's 17 Sustainable goals continues. Today we look at Goals 15 and 16. Goal 15: Drives rewilding land control/seizure and biodiversity schemes that remove land from food production and private hands. Goal 15 increases control over land use restricting farming and private property rights in the name of conservation and climate, using BNG (Biodiversity Net Gain) scoring and sanctions. These policies tied to biodiversity protection disproportionately affect rural communities while enabling corporations to shape land management decisions, these frameworks centralise authority and limit local autonomy. Goal 16: Promotes a model of governance that prioritises institutional power and global standards over national sovereignty and local traditions. Efforts to combat “misinformation” enable censorship and tighter control over public discourse. Under the banner of stability and justice, increased surveillance and reduced civil liberties.

Holy Family Church (only Catholic church in Gaza): Israeli sniper fire killed a mother and daughter in Dec 2023 while they were in the church compound; tank shell struck it directly on July 17, 2025, killing 3 and wounding 10 (including the parish priest). Churches bombed/struck in Lebanon (2023–2025): National Evangelical Church in Alma al-Shaab (one of the oldest Evangelical churches in the region): Bombed by Israel in Jan 2024. Church of St. George in Derdghaya: Hit by Israeli airstrike in Oct 2024, killing civilians sheltering there. Deir Mimas monastery (historic site from 1404): Targeted in strikes. Repeated physical harassment and spitting on Christian clergy, monks, and pilgrims by ultra-Orthodox Jewish extremists in Jerusalem’s Old City and elsewhere (well-documented, ongoing for years). Vandalism and desecration of Christian holy sites, cemeteries, and properties (including in the West Bank and Jerusalem). Displacement and pressure on Palestinian Christian communities through settlement expansion, land confiscation, and movement restrictions. Destruction of Christian villages or homes in southern Lebanon during operations (e.g., strikes on mostly Christian areas like Alma al-Shaab and others).
