This chart was in @australian newspaper today. 🙄. Seriously! In this case, the chart implies 2024 is half the 2021 number. A column chart encodes the value in the height of the column. Don’t be like The Australian; always set the axis to start at zero.

Have you noticed that Microsoft recently announced the renaming of #PowerBI datasets and they're now called "semantic models"? Are you a bit confused by all of this, and/or want to learn more. I have written a short article explaining it all here bit.ly/46ljSms

@PaulBongiorno Garbage. I voted no because I despise racism.

@r1c1 @ehansalytics It’s valid syntax, but in my view it’s distracting, creates confusion and is not required for DAX to be a beautiful language.
English

@ehansalytics Hmm.. Can you tell me why this is wrong? I assumed the internal evaluation flow & performance would be similar between this and CALCULATE ( [Sales], 'Date'[Year] = 2023 ). Is there any article or resource that goes deeper?
English

@KratosBi @Datatouille My rule for calc columns is to use them when you want to leverage relationships and/or measures as part of the calculation. Eg, Adventure Works CC in Customer table
IsLargeCustomer = [total sales]>=4000
To do this elsewhere requires table joins and SUM logic to be duplicated.
English

NO #PowerBI DAX columns. Nada. ZERO. Zilch.
Stop it.
You can now use #MicrosoftFabric
Fabric is 10,000 times better than a calculated DAX column.
It's close enough to the weekend.

@Datatouille Not controversial to me. It's pretty much exactly as I have in my blog article here, last updated nearly 8 years ago :-) exceleratorbi.com.au/calculated-col…
English

#PowerBI Controversial Opinion
👉 Beginners use a lot of DAX Calculated Columns for wrong reasons
👉 Intermediate users try to NEVER use DAX Calculated Columns because they were told it's super bad
👉 Advanced users use DAX Calculated Columns in specific & relevant scenarios
