Bresson insisted on complete authenticity. Devigny served as adviser on the film, which was actually shot in the same Montluc prison where he was incarcerated. André Devigny also loaned Robert Bresson the ropes & hooks he had used in his escape.

Just remembered today the time when the company that markets Danny Dyer DVDs tried to sell the film of "Borstal Boy" to his fans as a macho prison-break thriller, when he actually appears as a bisexual teenager who snogs his best friend, an IRA bomber from Dublin.

I can’t even put into words how much I love The Limey. Please see this film, I promise you’re not going to regret it. We lost Terence Stamp this year. If you ever wondered why his passing matters to so many people, this film is just one example. I absolutely adore this movie.

The Warden’s end in The Shawshank Redemption (1994) is earned. The hypocrisy exposed, the walls closing in, and that final shot sealing it. It’s the last piece of the escape clicking into place.

Kevin Bacon’s death in Sleepers (1996) lands exactly how it should. After everything his character put those kids through, it ends in a public room, no escape, no last second rescue. Just a quiet moment where the past finally catches up.
