@MariucciManiacs @THEOttoJohnson That idea that if you just see a team repeatedly, it’s gonna build a rivalry has been floated out there since WCHA dissolved… hasn’t happened…. North Dakota is the most hated and they will continue to be….. There’s nothing that’s gonna change that.

@THEOttoJohnson Unfortunately it’s just a conference thing. And having the occasional year off doesn’t help at all. Playing a team like WI and Mich 4 times every year (and at home every year) will build a more durable rivalry then seeing a team at home once every 2 or 3 years.

No one can ever tell me that any team other than North Dakota is Gopher Hockey’s most hated rival.
Memories of games like this cement it. Recent games like Knies’ OT winner in ‘22 and the blowout last year keep it going.

@Mariucci_Guy I think you’re right. The current system favors older players and requires that year or two of jr’s to compete. I know there’s a feeling it’s gonna hurt Minnesota high school hockey, but I don’t know the pressure to play juniors their senior year would necessarily happen.

Devil’s advocate: isn’t the reason 18-19yo aren’t ready most of the time due to the fact that college hockey skews older because of players coming in at 20/21?
Could it be possible that bringing down the average age of college hockey would make it easier for 18/19s? Thoughts?

On hockey and age-based admission: I had this in the newsletter a few weeks ago. More than 80% of college hockey freshmen last year were junior age-outs (20+ years old). 409 out of 509 players.

I just cancelled my Sling subscription… I can’t in good conscious continue to watch the NHL…. I love the game of hockey…lI’d rather watch a college high school 12-year-olds play- than support a league that puts protecting sexual predators ahead of doing the right thing

@THEOttoJohnson They all do….. start with making “bonehead” mistakes as they adjust to the speed and skill of this level. I think the best part about being a gopher hockey fan is that you get to see incredible talent and watch them develop. You get to see them get improve …. Nothing better

LaCombe made some bonehead mistakes early in his time in Maroon and Gold then would do something like this and show off his incredible potential.
He improved every year.
Watching him develop into an elite offensive defenseman at the NHL level has been so phenomenal to watch.

I’m trying to watch the Utah game but as I click on it. I get forced into watching Montreal. This coverage is absolutely horrible. The NHL needs to rethink you. They have a contract with because ESPN should not be covering these playoffs. They are absolutely a train wreck.

Wouldn't mind seeing Casy come as a 27th player. Would be an extra skater with two years of college and 17 points in 46 games.
He wouldn't take up a roster spot, so I'd be okay with adding more depth.
Plus, it lets Casy stay with his dad.
