Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a CPSE under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, has achieved yet another significant milestone in its ‘Make in India’ initiatives for the rail transportation sector by commencing the supply of underslung traction transformers for the prestigious Vande Bharat Sleeper Train project being executed by the BHEL-led consortium with TRSL. To this effect, a flag-off ceremony was held at BHEL’s Jhansi plant. BHEL flagged off the first set of semi-high-speed underslung traction transformers virtually. Earlier, traction converters for the same project were flagged off from BHEL’s Bengaluru plant. This development further strengthens BHEL’s strategic entry into the semi-high-speed propulsion segment, with an operational speed of up to 160 kmph and a design speed of 180 kmph. The traction transformers are being despatched to Kolkata for the final assembly of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains. In addition, another key propulsion system equipment, the traction motor, has been developed and manufactured by BHEL’s Bhopal unit. @BHEL_India @RailMinIndia @makeinindia #MHI #BHEL #MakeInIndia #IndianRailways #RailManufacturing #AtmanirbharBharat #IndigenousTechnology #VandeBharat #EngineeringExcellence

The Parliamentary Committee on Estimates recently conducted a study visit to Havelock Andaman and Nicobar islands on 27th December 2025 to review and discuss the financial ecosystem supporting India's industrial growth. The primary agenda was to evaluate the role of public and private sector banks in providing finance to the MSME and Heavy Industries sectors. Shri Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, attended the meeting and provided a comprehensive briefing to the Honourable Members of Parliament. Key Highlights of the Session: •Sectoral Focus: The briefing specifically highlighted the financial requirements and banking support needed for the Automobile Industry and Heavy Engineering sectors. •MSME Integration: Discussions centred on easing credit flow to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises to ensure supply chain resilience. •Stakeholder Participation: Senior officials from MSME and leading financial institutions—including State Bank of India (SBI), UCO Bank, and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB)—participated in the dialogue to align banking policies with industrial goals. This interaction serves as a crucial step in identifying bottlenecks in industrial financing and creating a roadmap for robust credit support to India's manufacturing backbone.
