3DS Max is $300 a month
Maya is $200 month
Cinema4D is $150 a month
These companies have only a fraction of the userbase that Blender has, yet they rake in BILLIONS in profit each and every year.
Blender has millions of users worldwide but only made €3 million in revenue and €0 in profit last year.
Only around €1.2 million came from individuals and generic small donations.
The rest came from corporate sponsors and other
But that wasn't enough to cover the expenses:
€2.7 million staffing costs alone.
The little that was left over had to be split across:
- rent
- travel costs
- office costs
- accounting costs
- advisory costs
- transaction fees
- conference costs
- other various expenses
The reservation for 2025 is in the negative: €-73 k.
To keep Blender alive and get better features faster, Blender needs to not only survive, but to grow a much bigger team.
The only way to do that is with more funding.
Everyone who have downloaded Blender should try donating at least once if you haven't already!

Oliver came to visit Japan over the last couple of weeks. It was great to finally meet in person and discuss everything we need to get done over the next couple of months for Lair of the Leviathan.
At the same time it was also a little (perhaps more than a little) strange. I had started this gamedev journey alone, never expecting anything to happen more than perhaps it being a cool little hobby and to create a game that I myself wanted to play.
It really has me reflecting on how far I had come. I somehow learnt pixel art, somehow had come up with a game people seemed interested in and also gained 7500 followers on X in a year and half. It has been very surreal and a little overwhelming. I even have become friends with and teamed up with someone I had admired for many years.
I still have no idea how this happened and most days I still suffer from imposter syndrome. I had previously doubted myself and whether this was even worth continuing so many times over the years. Oliver coming to visit kind of solidified everything, that it isn't just a dream, it really is happening. It feels really weird but I'm also happy to be on this journey wherever it ends up leading.
If you are reading this and feel like giving up on your own dreams, please don't. You never know what might happen.

Unity can read *.blend files with Blender installed.
I can tweak values in Geometry Nodes and see updates "live" without having to export/import anything.

In gta3, cop AI uses 3 driving behaviours:
Ramming. Simply driving towards the players’ position at full speed.
Blocking. Moving towards a point ahead or behind the player car and stopping there.
Following. The police car would keep its distance and only approach when too far away.
Ramming is more likely to be used as the wanted level goes up.
Police cars initially head for the road node closest to the player. When within a certain distance of the player (something like 20 meters) the behaviours kick in. You can see the sudden direction change when this happens.
Large areas on the map without car nodes (like parking lots) would not have police coverage. As we found these, designers would place nodes to connect the area to the road network. These nodes would then be switched off for ambient traffic.
The gta1 team claims the ramming behaviour was initially a bug but it was so much fun they kept it in. I guess @scarymon would know.

Congratulations to @gintszilbalodis and the entire Flow film crew for the Academy Award win!
Flow is the manifestation of Blender’s mission, where a small independent team is able to create a story that moves audiences worldwide.
Thank you for the shout out! 🧡 #b3d
