@DrEilidhMaria @Rebecca50149366 Can confirm if you do it properly it can be very flexible and rewarding. You don’t need to practice from CQC premise for Botox and dermal fillers. It’s given me the freedom to continue in the NHS without it being my ‘only option’, transformative for mindset/wellbeing.

@thegradmedic @danny_mercer Totally agree. I was lucky to be able to do an accelerated 3 year grad med degree at my uni as I’d also done my biomed undergrad there. Even then I feel the whole process could have been shorter!

The “smart people” thing is weird, but I totally agree. You don’t need 5-6 years to make an F1 from A2 biology and chemistry level. No way.

It is wrong to waste the time of smart people Premed- can be shortened, a lot Med school - can lose 1+ years (4th year is most expensive vacation of your life) Residency - can drop 1 year Fellowship - can drop 1 year Endless Gap years - fuel arms race Extra fellowships - basta!

@thegradmedic When the relentless treadmill of training gets me down, I try to remember that for most of us there isn’t only 1 path to happiness, most of us could be content in a few different specialties/locations. Not to say the current system is acceptable, but helps me co-exist with it ☺️

Keir, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had patients present with ‘bleeding’ and they’re not even sure from which orifice it originates. Self-referral would be a total disaster. Unsafe & a complete waste of time and resources when GPs are experts in triage. #NHSCrisis

Labour will reform the NHS: Self referrals for patients. Double the number of graduating doctors and district nurses. Increase training places for nurses and midwives. Free up GPs to focus on patients. With Labour, patients will get the service they need.

@SimplyTheBess89 If it is a true result they will do a few other tests to check it’s not causing any problems and review her medications and kidney function to identify a cause. Usually easily treated and unlikely to cause any harm over a short period, but good to have it re-checked just in case.

@SimplyTheBess89 High potassium on routine bloods is usually a false result due to a difficult blood draw and trauma to the blood cells which burst and potassium leaks out, so if she is otherwise well they will just repeat the bloods and if her potassium is normal they can ignore the first result

@thegradmedic Don’t let them make you feel inadequate, a skill that will serve you well in the NHS is working smarter not harder. Take the learning opportunities from the day/situation & otherwise don’t stay longer than needed! By final year you know best what you need to gain from a placement
