@gamesandbourbon As much as I don't want to admit it, having a game on BGA on average reduces the chance I'll buy the physical version. (For GREAT games, it will make me want to buy it!, but for OK games -- most games -- I play it a few times in BGA and don't feel the need to play it any more.)

How important is a BGA/TTS mod for a game before you back a game on crowdfunding?

I suspect many board game designers and publishers don't realize how "vetoes" are killing their sales. WHAT ARE VETOES? Board games aren’t like a lot of other products because they need several people’s buy-in to do their most basic job: getting to the table If every person in a group except for one person wants to play a game, that one person can be the reason it's not played. So one veto can ensure a game isn’t played, and one anticipated veto can ensure a game isn’t purchased. The three most common reasons for vetoes: 1. the theme is a turn-off for someone 2. the game is too complex for someone 3. the game is too simple for someone (the last two conflict, which makes satisfying both the hardest problem in game design, imo) Our big project this year is a 2nd Edition of our game Trekking the World. Two reasons we chose to pursue it, rather than make a new game: 🎲we see few people veto that theme 🎲we developed a theory about how to avoid both the "too complex" and the "too simple" vetoes at the same time. @wwizardgames Yes, for games that have lots (200+) of cards that need shuffled together when playing, like Race for the Galaxy or Terraforming Mars. No for most other games.

@stuffByBez With Terraforming Mars, I'm totally fine with 15 cards in front of me to choose from, but when I played Smash Up, an arguably much less complex game, I felt overwhelmed when I had 8.

What are some games where you get lots of cards in front of you? At what point does it overload you? I personally feel like 20 cards is fine in Splendor Duel but if both players have that many in MTG it’s usually too much for me.
