We are excited about this study as multiple studies had suggested that such an outer kinetochore receptor for Aurora B must exist. We feel it’s an important step towards understanding how Ipl1/Aurora B achieves tension-dependent substrate phosphorylation at the outer kinetochore.

Alex shows that the mutant is very sensitive to a reduction in Ipl1 activity. However, it can be rescue it by recruitment of active Ipl1 to KMN in vivo. Biochemically Ipl1-Sli15 binds reconstituted KMN via Spc105-Kre28 in vitro, the binding is counteracted by Ipl1 phosphorylation

Errors during cell division can have dire consequences. If you are interested in understanding how kinetochores and the microtubule cytoskeleton work together to allow faithful chromosome segregation in mitosis apply to @LabWestermann @IMPRS_LM. #PhDposition #celldivision #IMPRS

Excited to share my first first-author paper. Our work @hemmo_lab on lysosomal damage sensing and lysophagy initiation is out in @MolecularCell sciencedirect.com/science/articl…. Here we show how cells triage damaged lysosomes for lysophagy via lipid-packing defect sensing by SPG20/Spartin

Excited to share our latest preprint, excellent work by Emily and @erinejenson! Extensive mutagenesis of the Ndc80c revealed a very busy 'interaction hub,' vital for Mps1 binding and competitive regulation of localization: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Our work sheds new light in a mechanism how end-on attachment maturation can regulate the recruitment of Mps1 and shows the tight interconnection between error correction and the spindle assembly checkpoint.

The surface on Ndc80c that binds Mps1 also serves as interface for the Ipl1 regulated engagement of Dam1 at bi-oriented kinetochores. Dam1 competes with Mps1 in vitro and Dam1 mutants that mimic Ipl1 phosphorylation cannot displace Mps1 efficiently.

We are excited to share our latest preprint on BioRxiv (doi.org/10.1101/2023.1…). Together with @AndreaMusacchi1 we investigated the regulated recruitment of Mps1 to the budding yeast kinetochore and propose a model that puts Mps1 localization under indirect regulation of Ipl1.
