Some of the personal abuse that @stellacreasy has experienced in recent days has been off-the-scale. The abuse directed at women on social media is one of the most disturbing things I've learnt from being on this platform. It needs to be said, however, that this week's change in abortion laws - of which she is a prominent aupporter - is one of the most sickening changes to British society ever. It's now legal in this country to "terminate" up until birth. It's basically infanticide. We're killing babies that could easily survive outside the womb and it's been done without any meaningful public debate - piggy-backing as an amendment to a barely relevant bill. Dark. Dark in so many ways. I don't use the word "wicked" lightly but that's what this legislation is. And that so few people in this country even seem to care about what is now lawful is the saddest thing of all. "Great" Britain? Not while this law stands.

@LibLabConman @afneil Not unreasonable - there are a lot of "what ifs" doing some seriously heavy lifting. That said, the news has highlighted the fact that the UK has no BMD capability.

I am very wary of reports that the UK is now within range of Iranian ballistic missiles. But if the reports are true, let’s be in no doubt: the UK has no defences against such missiles. No dedicated national ballistic missile defence (BMD) system for intercepting intermediate- or intercontinental-range threats aimed at the homeland. No ground-based interceptors (like US THAAD or Patriot systems in Europe) deployed in Britain for this purpose. In theory our T-45 warships could provide some cover. But most are currently undeployable or not in UK waters. Leaving us defenceless from ballistic missile attack. Another massive military failure of the political class of all recent governments.

THAAD or Patriot systems would be of limited value against hypersonic Iranian IRBMs. Our Type-45s (two are deployable), would be useless against such a threat. The Aegis Ashore complex in Redzikowo, Poland, could provide some cover but otherwise we could have to ask that nice Mr Trump for some of his Aegis-equipped Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, fitted with SM-3 Block IIA missiles, augmented with the SM-6 (RIM-174 Standard Missile-6). If Iran could hit Europe they would have done it already, they don't even have the balls to hit Dubai properly. Stop the fear mongering, they ain't gonna do anything. It's all just a rich mans trick.
