@itseieio @suhitdoingstuff ah interestin'. i've messed with the favicon updating thing a bit myself (one day a project i'll finish heh) but in a simpler form. not sure, but it seeeemed like i could get better fps. maybe it matters that the pages aren't in focus ? i know deselected tab updates get slowwwwed

@ojelibalon ah i didn't even realize the diffusion would also perform the trail "fading", but that makes a lot of sense. one day maybe i'll bring shaders into it ! but it's a lot of fun to play with like it is. thanks again for sharing about this algo. i look forward to more : ]

@MatthewRayfield Oh, it's a cool effect! I thought maybe it wasn't intentional. Yes, originally, you'd need to diffuse it, but if you work without shaders, just fading away is a close estimate.

@ojelibalon it just occurred to me this was a joke about the checkered pattern... i'm a little slow sometimes 😩

@MatthewRayfield are you using the cpu or gpu? it looks like your texture lookup for the trail has an issue, but I can't put may finger on it

@ojelibalon one other thing it needs is i read somewhere that the trail should have a diffusion kind of thing on it. i tried using a blur filter in html canvas but it was reeeaaally slow. if i ever bring gpu that would be something to add

@ojelibalon it's all in with javascript and a canvas element. what you might be noticing is if the step distance is bigger than the size a "spore" it leaves gaps in the trail. could be fixed but i kind of thought it was an interesting effect.
