@BlueRibbonCtry @reba @garthbrooks I’m sure George Strait had better stats… Reba’s music was better in the 80’s.

Looking back at the numbers I posted earlier, Did anyone have a better ’90s run than Reba? Garth Brooks, yeah. But who else?! @Reba is in a very elite class once you take her acting into consideration. @garthbrooks

On this Date in Country Music History:
1993: Farm Aid VI was held in Ames, Iowa, featuring a strong country presence including Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Ricky Van Shelton, Marty Stuart, Martina McBride, and Dwight Yoakam (alongside rock and folk acts).
2020: Harold Reid, the longtime bass singer and founding member of The Statler Brothers, passed away at age 80. The Statlers were known for gospel-infused country hits like "Flowers on the Wall" and their long-running Opry appearances and TV show.
2006: Bonnie Owens, country singer and songwriter (former wife of Buck Owens and later Merle Haggard), died at age 76. She was a key figure in the Bakersfield Sound era and contributed vocals and songwriting to many classic recordings.
1943: Richard Sterban, bass singer for The Oak Ridge Boys, born in Camden, New Jersey. He's the unmistakable deep voice behind their massive crossover hits like "Elvira," "Bobbie Sue," and "American Made."

@Kevinlzxt Kenny Chesney was arguably the most unoriginal artist ever, I can respect other artist in The CMHOF even if they aren’t my cup of tea but i can’t get behind Kenny Chesney he made frat party country music 🤢

As y'all know, you'll find traces of Texas all over the planet. Also, as y'all know, Roy Orbison was a Texan. As you may not know, today is Roy Orbison's 90th birthday. He was born in Vernon in 1936. So I was both amazed and gratified when TOT reader Graham Lindsay found "in a charity shop in Dunfermline, Fife, this morning. This is the 1963 original UK pressing. The title track. Which he wrote, is one of the greatest songs of all time."
I had to look up where "Dunfermline, Fife" is. It's just north of Edinburgh, Scotland. Of course, one must cross the Firth of Forth to get to it. But I'm so glad that some Scotsman was enjoying Roy Orbison's music back in 1963. Music is the international language, they say.
Thank you for sharing this, Graham. Happy birthday, Roy Orbison!

On April 20th, 1965, Roger Miller was at the top of the country chart with “King of the Road.” The tale of a hobo who is happy to sacrifice a life of luxury for freedom was an international crossover hit. It also brought Miller five Grammy Awards. However, the song’s origins are steeped in mystery. Over the years, multiple stories about how the song came about have surfaced. A few of them were told by Miller.

Looking in these comments I can tell there’s a lot of casual music listeners… Anyone who’s serious about guitar would know that Vince Gill is one of the greatest players to ever pick up the instrument.

🎶 I ain't lived forever but I've lived enough
and I've learned to be gentle and I've learned to be tough
I've found only two things that last 'til the end
One is your heroes, the other's your friends 🎶
Goodbye, #DonSchiltz. You were a true hero of country music. RIP🙏💔
