Basically the story of European interaction with China. -China has tea, White guy steals tea from China. China has silk, White guys came to China in the guise of monks, steal silkworms from China. China clocked it that European “monks” & “missionaries” are always spies.
Aleph@woke8yearold

The story of how a British guy stole tea from China is really funny. He spoke Chinese and hired a local guide, then got the right haircut and clothes. When he approached people he said he was from a distant province beyond the wall and they were like yeah seems legit

I like Japanese food, but variety is certainly its weakness lmao. I’ve been to Japan and enjoyed its food, but after only 10days or so it started to feel bland and monotonous. You could only stomach seafood with soy sauce and noodle with soy sauce for that long.

Imagine you had murdered, raped, and experimented on almost every member of your neighbor's family. Now, the surviving children are growing stronger every day, and they know exactly what you did to their family. Japan's hatred for China is simply because they are terrified. They act tough to cover up how scared they really are.

You keep talking as if Korea’s culture was born in a vacuum. Reality check: every civilization has roots some deep, some borrowed, some inherited. But only one country in East Asia keeps screaming “stolen!” every time someone shares an object older than its own recorded history. If China wearing a black hat in a drama is “cultural theft,” then what exactly is Korea’s culture built on? Selective memory? Repackaged tributary aesthetics? Or the belief that whatever existed in East Asia before 1948 automatically belongs to Seoul? No one is “claiming” Korean culture. What’s happening is simpler: Korean nationalism can’t process the fact that history in this region didn’t start with K-pop. If your identity requires erasing your history of plagiarism to feel unique, it reflects more your insecurity than "cultural preservation."

China is claiming Korean culture: -Kimchi -Hanbok (Korean traditional clothes) -Dolsot Bibimbap -K-Pop -Gat (traditional black hat with strings to tie around the chin) -What else?

You don't speak for Asia. You speak for Washington. You list Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, South Korea, and India as if they form a single anti-China bloc. They don't. What they share is a century of being used as forward outposts for someone else's empire. Vietnam does not see China as an "existential threat." We see interference as the threat, whether it comes in Mandarin, English, or any other imperial tongue. Our history is not defined by fear of our neighbor. It’s defined by resisting every empire that tried to make us choose a side. We fought China when we had to. We fought the United States when we had to. And we survived both, not because we trusted either, but because we never let any foreign power define who we should fear. You say "most countries see China as a threat." No, most countries see American militarization as the real destabilizer. Who sailed carrier groups into Asian waters? Who armed dictators, staged coups, and dropped napalm across this region? It wasn't Beijing. It was Washington. China builds ports, trains, and industrial zones. The U.S. builds bases, blockades, and burial grounds. That's the difference between a partner and a patron. Vietnam's security is not threatened by China's rise. It is threatened by being turned again into a pawn in someone else's Cold War. Every time Asia starts to unite, someone in Europe or Washington panics, Because a self-determined Asia is the end of Western primacy. You call yourself a "foreign policy analyst." But you don't analyze foreign policy. You recycle colonial reflexes. You confuse Asia's memory of survival with your fear of losing control. The truth is simple: Most of Asia trades with China, not the U.S. Most of Asia trusts development, not deployment. And most of Asia knows that the only empire still demanding loyalty oaths is the one flying the Stars and Stripes. So stop speaking for us, Ulrich. You don't understand Asia. You misunderstand your own irrelevance.

“Japan doesn’t beg for admiration. It doesn’t need to.” Japan literally built its modern day image based on the oriental fantasy of the west. It’s literally an East Asian theme park for y’all. You associate all the cultural and historical traditions that originated in CHINA to Japan, then get upset when the Chinese point out that these are actually ours. Zen is from China. The “Japanese” crane is actually the Chinese crane. The game of Go is Chinese; ramen and mochi also trace back to China. And we’re expected to stay silent because associating these good things with China might spoil your aesthetic fantasy. Well, enough of this silence. We’re reclaiming everything you love under the mistaken label of “Japanese.” These traditions are ours, and we won’t let you rebrand them just to feel better.
Prometheus@CaribbeanRythms

I’ve said this before, Japan doesn’t beg for admiration. It doesn’t need to. It exists certain of its heritage and is alluring BECAUSE it couldn’t care less if you notice. China can’t stop with its obsessive need to tell you about its greatness (ancient, powerful, independent) while desperately craving the West’s validation. You can see the inferiority complex in every LED display.
