I'm happy to announce that the bipartisan NOAA Weather Radio Modernization Act has passed out of committee! As the representative for Oregon's North Coast, I've worked to strengthen federal weather programs since 2013 because timely and accurate weather alerts save lives and property. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's forecasts keep Oregonians safe, and I'm working to protect its funding so alerts go out before disaster strikes.

I stand in strong support of the Stop Comstock Act and I will fight the Republicans' blatant attempt at a nationwide abortion ban straight out of the Project 2025 playbook. No one should have to live in fear of accessing reproductive care.

Instead of focusing on real education issues like funding IDEA, Republicans took hours of the committee's time promoting a narrow-minded book ban that purports to “protect children” by defining what kind of books they can and can’t have in schools. If my colleagues really want to protect children they would do something to end gun violence, stop ICE raids, and make health care and housing affordable.

I always enjoy connecting with my friends at the Oregon Arts Commission! Arts and culture are important to our communites and to the economy, which is why I inroduced the bipartisan CREATIVE Act to bolster arts and cultural institutions and the bipartisan Arts Education for All bill to increase access to arts education.

The so-called "SAVE America Act" is an attack on the fundamental rights of Americans. Voting is a pillar of democracy, and we should be making it easier, not harder to vote. @ORSecretaryRead and I outlined how dangerous this legislation would be to our elections.

In Oregon and across the country, many kids are afraid to go to school and families are afraid to leave their homes. How can we expect young people to learn in school when they’re not sure if their parents will be there when they get home? ICE’s violent practices continue to inflict trauma that will last generations.

This map shows how far and how quickly ICE has taken people from the Pacific Northwest over the past two years. There has been a huge increase in detentions, and also a dramatic increase in the distance people are taken from their homes. This threatens their ability to meet court dates and obtain counsel, and it’s another reason why I will  not give this lawless agency any more money.

I met with Donate Life Northwest, an organization dedicated to improving and saving lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation. Organ donation saves lives.

I had a wonderful time speaking with the Forest Grove and Hillsboro Youth Advisory Councils! These involved and compassionate youth give me hope for the future of our country and democracy.

It was a honor to welcome members and leaders of the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) to their meeting in Portland. Thank you for all you do to keep travelers safe!

We have a responsibility to protect students and young consumers from fraudulent and dishonest lenders. Reopening this important CFPB office is an important step forward for accountability in the student loan system. The bill also expands the resources available for those who have been cheated by student loan companies and for-profit colleges.

No one should be attacked or threatened at a place of worship or because of their faith. I strongly condemn the horrific recent events and joined several of my colleagues on this statement denouncing the violence.

I celebrated securing $1.031 million for the Oregon CASA Network leaders, volunteers, board members, and supporters. This funding will help recruit, train, supervise, and support volunteers to advocate on behalf of children and young people in the foster care system.

I was glad to stand with striking faculty and staff at PCC Rock Creek. The people on strike are deeply committed to the success of Portland Community College and PCC relies on their work to be successful. It’s time for a contract that reflects the respect and dignity they have earned.
