In 2016/2017, there was a Bet9ja shop close to my house. I often went there to charge my phone and also play virtual games back then. There was one particular guy who always came to the shop. He was so addicted. He played virtual betting every day. He would come to the shop in the morning even before they opened. He wouldn’t bathe, and he would stay there from morning till night. He was an artisan at that time, but he stopped going to work and turned the Bet9ja shop into his new home. He would eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner there without even bathing. Rinse and repeat everyday. The thing started ruining his life the day he won ₦120k from virtual betting. He furnished his single room, bought a TV, a new mattress, and other things. But as he got deeper into it, he eventually sold everything just to afford to keep playing virtual betting. Later, his family came and forcefully took him away from the community.
