Slate Union
@SlateUnion
Official account for @slate's staff union with the @WGAEast. #1u

On Monday morning, Slate was suddenly informed that six of its employees—including three editors, two of whom were members of the union—were being laid off, just months after four other staffers were also let go. The Slate Union's official statement reads as follows:

WE WALKED OUT: We are on a 24-hour work stoppage to stand in solidarity with our co-workers who were unlawfully laid off. WE are @Law360. #layoffs360

Our company tried to scare workers away from coming out today. Instead, hundreds of us been living it up for 10+ hours and have been joined by loyal readers, journalism legends, union leaders, security guards, custodial staff and a whole lotta dogs and babies. We love you all.

We're furious and it's time for a fair contract—fast! That's why tomorrow in Washington, D.C., striking @WGAEast members and labor allies will be leafletting outside of a private @comcast @NBCNews screening of Fast X. Come one, come all! (via @DPEaflcio)

Even though BuzzFeed News has closed down, we’re still at the bargaining table, making sure everyone losing their jobs is being treated fairly. Unfortunately, BuzzFeed couldn’t care less 🧵
