Snapdrop & PairDrop for Android

🚨 Important Update 🚨 Snapdrop.net was acquired by a company with unclear security & privacy practices. To keep users safe, the Snapdrop Android app will no longer support it and will now exclusively use PairDrop. Thanks for your understanding! 🙏

@JohhanSantana Yes, but not only. PairDrop does provide additional features like "device pairing" so you can share files even if your devices are not in the same network. Note that we don't host both websites ourselves, but relay on other great people in the open-source community.

@SnapdropAndroid what’s the differences? Only where they are hosted and such if one dies the other one is still working?

From time to time users ask us why snapdrop servers are down. We can't do anything about it, despite recommending to try pairdrop.net You can switch between both server URLs via the settings of our app.

As this app focuses more and more on PairDrop, so we decided to change our app name. Still, our current naming is quite inconsistent at some places, so feel free to reach out if you have any ideas...

Google has finally brought Nearby Share to Windows. It's not yet available in all regions, but the user experience between Android and Windows is really awesome. Well done, Google! android.com/better-togethe… Nevertheless, we'll continue to develop "Snapdrop for Android" for you 🫶

@ARY13055936 They need to be in the same WiFi network. Furthermore the WiFi Network needs to allow connections between devices which is not always the case in public networks.

@darmi_games Transfer uses P2P connection, that's right. Still the server is currently required for device recognition...

@SnapdropAndroid If it uses p2p connection, there's no need for a central server, right? If so, would it be possible to just havr it run as an app in my computer instead of relying on the server working?

We apologize for the frequent down-times recently. Currently, all requests are routed through one and the same server, and it doesn't seem to handle such large user traffic properly. However, decentralizing this architecture is quite a complex task. We are aware of it, sorry!🙏
