@BeGriffis Fair enough, I think we can both agree the concept isn't just a simple fix.
I just believe that USMNT improving would shift the way non-soccer sports fans in the US see the sport.
This obviously wouldn't turn the whole US into massive footy fans, but I think it would help.
English

@StatMaximum I just cannot get on board with that idea at all, to be honest 😅
English

@BeGriffis I can see your point, but I think the large majority of American people don't watch soccer because the USMNT isn't very good.
I didn't mean to imply that USMNT players should be pulled the MLS, but I think we need to develop better players in the MLS.
English

@StatMaximum I actually completely disagree with the idea that the USMNT being bad hurts MLS' popularity
Japan's national team by and large isn't pulling players from J1 anymore. Neither is the USMNT pulling from MLS
MLS develops players for Europe like J1 does too

@6thiagoat Lorient and Bournemouth have the same owners plus he was signed before the 22 goal season and immediately loaned back.

@11Yanks MLS teams need to be more like the Union producing the likes of Jack McGlynn, Aaronson brothers, Sullivan brothers, Mark McKenzie, Auston Trusty.
These are all players who have and could compete for spots in our national team.

@WeleSzn 4 assists from .87 isn’t a good thing it’s luck. Not hating on Wieffer, but I don’t think you understand expected assists.

All the professional yappers in the replies saying take him or pining for RDZ
Here are facts:
From January onwards in 2024, RDZ finished with 7 wins, 6 draws and 10 losses, winning 3 of his last 18.
From January onwards this year Fabian has led us to 11 wins, 5 draws and 5 losses.
I’d argue Fabian objectively plays more sustainable, flexible football than RDZ ever did. He hasn’t had a fully fit 11 to choose from for most of the season.
Has led us to wins over Man United (2X), Chelsea (2X), Newcastle (2X), City, held Arsenal to draws twice
For a very young man who is just learning how to manage in the PL he’s done very well.
But he’s not endearing enough to some, so let’s bring back the guy who’s team employs Mason Greenwood
$200 million wasn’t spent with the idea of us immediately challenging at the top, it was spent to give us a platform to build a team with strength in depth, to mount a long term challenge for the top 6 and consistent European qualification

Brighton owner-chairman Tony Bloom believes he can “disrupt Scottish football” after making a formal offer of £9.86million to buy a 29 per cent stake in Hearts.
The Edinburgh club’s fans’ group Foundation of Hearts (FoH), which is their major shareholder, outlined Bloom’s ambition for the club but their members must give more than 50 per cent approval for his bid to be accepted.
They say that the 55-year-old has recognised the club’s “significant potential” and “disrupt” the Scottish game, which has long been dominated by Glasgow-based rivals Celtic and Rangers.

@themodernera2 @tha_CEO_ Exactly by your logic it should be a goal
English

@StatMaximum @tha_CEO_ Because the taker hasn’t done anything wrong
English

Agreed, even if a retake in this situation is exclusively for shoot-outs and/or only if you score the penalty.
Lyés@LyesBouzidi10
I will never understand that penalty rule. It’s literally accidental, at the very most surely it should just go down as a retake!
English

@themodernera2 @tha_CEO_ If the goalie steps off the line and saves it, why should they get another go?
English

@tha_CEO_ Tbf its the attackers mistake, why should they get another go?

@HenshawAnalysis Liam, do you have any links to Python resources in relation to Viz building (ideally football related data source driven)?

My journey from Excel novice to professional football data analyst:
The secret? Start simple.
Five years ago, I knew nothing about creating football data visuals.
Today I work professionally in football, building interactive applications that drive decisions.
My football data visualisation pathway:
1. Excel Beginnings
• Where most of us start
• Simple, familiar, but limited for complex football data.
2. Tableau Revolution
• Free, intuitive drag-and-drop interface
• No steep learning curve to overcome
• Create bar charts and scatter plots in minutes
• Perfect for beginners wanting professional results
3. Python Learning
• Build interactive tools and applications
• Create beautiful pizza and radar charts
• Complete control over visualisation design
• Scrape, clean and visualise in one workflow
• Steeper learning curve but worth the investment
The biggest game-changer was creating web applications to share visualisation tools.
This showcased my skills and created immediate buy-in from stakeholders.
For beginners: Start with Tableau. It's your friend.
For those comfortable with code: Python or R is your path.
Remember: We all start somewhere.
Consistency matters more than complexity.
What's your current go-to tool for football data visualisation?

English

@HenshawAnalysis I’m already pretty comfortable with Python. Do you think it’s worth learning Tableau and R or should I stay focused on Python.
