When your wife, who knows literally nothing about golf, can identify Gary Woodland because he’s the “guy with the brain problem and is so nice to everyone”, it means Gary Woodland is awesome. Congrats Gary! What a courageous win!

Gary Woodland rocks. He’s endured more than any person should ever have to and has never lost who he is. He has truly earned every bit of love coming his way. So well deserved.

Gary Woodland’s win today is the best story in sports. How do you not root for this inspirational figure? That hug with his wife. That was awesome.

The thing that always sticks with me about the GW story, maybe cos I have kids a similar age, is this bit from Full Swing where he talks about writing letters to them in case he didn’t make it through brain surgery. Imagine having to write those letters.

In a world where young men are learning “toxic masculinity” from Andrew Tate, thank God for men like Gary Woodland. You can be a big dude with 196 mph ball speed, a world-class athlete, and still be vulnerable. That’s healthy masculinity—and it should be celebrated.

Many will ponder if this win will mean more to Gary than his US Open win, when he looks back. There are 4 major champions every year. There’s a very short list in history of players who have won on Tour after brain surgery.

I often avoid reposting timely (but dated) stories because I don’t love the perception of it being opportunistic, but in the wake of @GaryWoodland’s win, and the battle he’s ensued since, I think it’s worthwhile to understand his courage. This is a truly incredible win for Gary.
