The Nebra sky disc, 3600 years old. The disc features the oldest concrete depiction of astronomical phenomena known from anywhere in the world. Two golden arcs along the sides are thought to have marked the angle between the solstices.

Emerald, Muzo Mine, Boyacá Department, Colombia. Miniature at 3.2 x 2.5 x 2.1 cm, seated on a pearly white calcite matrix. This crystal is described as glassy, one inch tall, with 12 faces and what the collector calls perfect deep color. That face count stuck with me. 🧵 1/3

Marie-Antoinette was the victim of one of history's greatest identity thefts. A con artist named Jeanne de Valois-Saint-Rémy convinced a Cardinal that the Queen wanted a 2,800-carat diamond necklace but couldn't buy it openly. The Ruse: The con artist hired a Marie Antoinette lookalike to meet Cardinal de Rohan in a dark grove at night. The Result: Even though the Queen was completely innocent and hadn't even met the Cardinal, the public believed she had tried to defraud the crown. This scandal effectively destroyed her remaining reputation.
